Duplex steel flanges consist of a balanced combination of ferrite and austenite phases comprising generally 21-23% chromium, 4.5-6.5% nickel, 2.5-3.5% molybdenum and a limited amount of nitrogen. Offering corrosion resistance at surface tensile strength (620-795 MPa) and yield strength (450 MPa an extremely low) with good stiffness and good elongation. Advantages are high resistance to pitting, cracking and stress corrosion cracking, greater strength and improved fatigue life. Relative to typical stainless steel these qualities make it well-suited to applications a it is as complex as the chemical and marine industries the oil and gas sector.
